Consider hosting an exchange student January through June 2013

EF Foundation for Foreign Study, an exchange agency we work with often, has several students interested in attending Holy Cross in January who are currently seeking host families.  The students are from Austria and Germany, male and female, and are all sophomores.  If you're interested in hosting a student, please contact Amy Lawson atlawson_a@hcrs-va.org.

If you're interested in learning more about what it takes to host a student, please contact Amy and she can put you in touch with several families at Holy Cross School who have served as hosts and can share their experience with you.

Nature Notes from Dr. Justice

October

Remember the mockingbird that drove you nuts last June singing until 3am and swooshing by your head when you strayed too close to its nest?  Well, that same pugnacious pugilist is here all year-round, fiercely defending its territory against all comers.  However, not many birds spend the entire year with us.  Most either breed here and spend the winter elsewhere, or vice versa.  In October and May, though, we can catch rare glimpses of a few species that only pass through our area en route to breeding or wintering grounds.  So it's time to find your binoculars, dust off the field guide, and look for some of the Fall migrants.
