ESCT's "Slightly Off Broadway Players" have been bringing live theatre to Excelsior Springs and the surrounding area for thirty years. The organization has performed in many locations over the years, including Roosevelt high school, Wyman school, the Community of Christ church basement, and cafes and bistros in the area.
After wandering for twenty-eight years from one rented production space to another, the organization was able to purchase its own building in 2010 and is now presenting all its productions at the "Slightly Off Broadway Theatre" at 114 N. Marietta here in Excelsior Springs.
The organization's board of directors has been comprised of various notable individuals in the area, and although they have changed over the years, the original concept and mission has never changed: to enhance the arts by bringing quality live theatre to the area, and to ensure that all generations have the opportunity to learn about live theatre.
The next production for the group is the Broadway musical "Sweeney Todd", which opens November 29th and runs Nov. 30, Dec. 1, and the next weekend-Dec 6, 7, 8, & 9. The evening curtains are at 7:30, with the Dec 9 matinee opening at 2:00.
The Saturday Dec.8 show is a special presentation featuring a wine and dessert intermission provided by Ventana Gourmet Grille.
