MTA/NJ fights for you at the American Boating Congress in Washington D.C.

The 2014 American Boating Congress (ABC) in Washington, DC wrapped up on May 7th and was deemed by all a great success. The ABC is an annual opportunity for the marine industry to come together in D.C. and use a united voice to educate Congress. It is also a great opportunity to network with other industry groups from around the country. A number of keynote speakers shared insight and expertise during the event. For more information:
http://www.nmma.org/government/abc/default.aspx

Executive Director, Melissa Danko along with MTA/NJ Board Member, Ray Fernandez of Bridge Marina and MTA/NJ Staff Chelsea Simkins, visited U.S. Congressional offices of Senator Cory Booker, Congressmen Pallone and Frelinghuysen. They spoke about the importance of the boating industry to New Jersey, the lingering issues from Hurricane Sandy including funding that is slow to be granted to businesses and other issues impacting the boating industry. They also provided information about 5 national key issues. Click here for more information on the 5 Policy Issues Briefs.

Melissa Danko also participated in a number of industry meetings including the Recreational Boating Leadership Council, which she is a member of. She is part of the Youth Committee whose priority goals are to quantify and inventory existing youth boating programs to understand opportunities and needs, explore opportunities with existing and new high school level fishing and boating clubs, create an industry-wide commitment to youth programs such as Sea Scouts, share news with industry stakeholders regarding their work and identify areas of opportunity. The Recreational Boating Leadership Council is a group of leaders from across all segments of the marine industry working together to address growth challenges facing the marine industry.

She also attended a meeting of the National Marine Trades Council, which includes Executive Directors from Marine Trade Associations from around the nation. The group meets a few times a year to discuss Association issues and boat shows.

More than $16 Million in Grants Will Boost Recreational Boating Across the Nation
Infrastructure projects provide opportunities for outdoor recreation, create jobs

Recreational boaters recently received good news when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced more than $14.27 million in Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG) program competitive grants to 10 states and the District of Columbia. The Service also will provide approximately $2.48 million to 27 states, commonwealths and territories willing to match smaller, non-competitive grants dedicated to boating infrastructure projects.

Among those awarded are two MTA/NJ members: Key Harbor Marina and Sandy Hook Bay Marina. Key Harbor Marina will use the grant to renovate 10 transient slips, which were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The project will also include shore power and dock lighting. Sandy Hook Bay Marina project
will rebuild and restore 15 transient slips in an older section of the marina, provide full services for transient boaters and use modern design to withstand future storms. Congratulations to our members on receiving these grant awards.

Advertising in the MTA/NJ Directory is a great way to get your ad in front of thousands of boaters and potential new customers. It is more important than ever to take advantage of affordable advertising opportunities like this and promote your business! The MTA/NJ Boater's Directory (Membership Directory) is distributed all year long to thousands of boaters, fellow MTA/NJ members, hundreds of marine businesses, media, and many more. The MTA/NJ office receives daily requests for this handy boating guide.

If you would like to place an ad in the 2015 edition, please complete the Directory Advertising Form. The rates are low and the money you spend to advertise goes back into the boating industry to support the efforts of the MTA/NJ. The MTA/NJ Boater's Directory is digitally printed, which gives you the ability to change your ad throughout the year. Updates can also include a change in address, a new product or service, a special event, or anything new you want to advertise. In today's economy, it is important to get the most out of your dollars. Advertising in the MTA/NJ Boater's Directory will do just that.
