Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo Continues to Attract Buyers
The fifth annual Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo was held September 20-22, 2013, at FirstEnergy Park, Home of the Lakewood BlueClaws. This unique boating sales event featured new and pre-owned boats, engines and accessories for sale by New Jersey's top marine retailers. The event was organized by the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, advancing and protecting the recreational marine industry and waterways in the State of New Jersey. Travelers Commercial Ocean Marine Insurance was a supporting sponsor of the 2013 show.
The focus of the Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo is to provide affordability and convenience for both consumers and exhibitors. The show has grown in size every year since being founded in 2009. This year's show featured close to 250 new and pre-owned boats on sale, including 2014 models by 23 dealers, representing 60 different boat manufacturers in close to 90,000 square feet and was the largest show to date.
This year the MTA/NJ partnered with Core Studios to film various aspects of the show including show set up. Core Studios produced a unique montage of the show that has never been captured before. "This very cool, new video shows all of the work that goes into setting up the show as well as aerial shots of the hundreds of boats that were there," stated Melissa Danko, MTA/NJ Executive Director. "It gives people that may have never attended before a chance to see how great the show is and all that it has to offer."

Employers are required to provide all current employees and new hires with a written notice about the Marketplace (formerly referred to as the exchange) by October 1, 2013. The new requirement is part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Key requirements relating to the notice include: - The notice is applicable to all employers subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This includes most employers, regardless of size.
- The notice must be provided free of charge and in writing, and delivered either by mail or electronically in accordance with ERISA standards for electronic delivery.
- The notice must be provided to all full-time and part-time employees, regardless of whether (1) the employer sponsors coverage, or (2) the employee is enrolled in an employer-sponsored medical plan. It does not need to be sent to dependents.
- The Department of Labor has now clarified there is NO fine or penalty for failure to provide the exchange notice by October 1, 2013, or at all.

IMBC Distributes Preliminary 2014 Brochure
Detailed plans announced for marina conference
The International Marina & Boatyard Conference (IMBC), produced by the Association of Marina Industries (AMI), has published a 20-plus page preliminary brochure detailing plans for the event taking place January 29-31, 2014, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The IMBC preliminary brochure includes information about the conference's 25+ educational sessions, special events such as the return of the popular Casino Night and a new Taste of the Tropics reception, and general information about the show. The brochure also highlights a list of more than 70 companies already signed up to exhibit.
For 2014, IMBC will bring back the inland, coastal, and boatyard and service breakout session tracks, interactive workshops, and presenter delivery styles created for last year's event. The field trip, AMI member meeting, and first time attendee reception will also return.
New additions to IMBC include a marina design and engineering breakout session track, a keynote follow-up roundtable, and a best profits panel. Live new product demos will also be conducted on the exhibit floor.
"We produce a preliminary brochure for IMBC to give industry professionals a glimpse of the sessions and events we are planning," AMI Chair Gary Groenewold, CMM, says. "Prospective attendees can see that the benefits of attending far outweigh the registration and travel costs. IMBC is the place to be if you are in the marina and boatyard industry."

Recipients of the Neil Ross Scholarship Chosen
The Association of Marina Industries (AMI) awarded the Marine Trades Association of NJ (MTA/NJ) and the California Association of Harbor Masters and Port Captains (CAHMPC) the Neil Ross Scholarship awards to be given to two individuals who the organizations felt best deserved the funds.
MTA/NJ chose Melissa Danko, their Executive Director to receive the award and attend the International Marina and Boatyard. CAHMPC chose Mick Kronman, Harbor Operations Manager at Santa Barbara who will attend the Advanced Marina Manager training.
Danko was chosen by the MTA/NJ Board due to her tireless efforts to bring support, funding and relief to the many marinas that suffered losses during Super storm Sandy. Frederick Brueggemann, President of MTA/NJ commented, "Melissa leads our association in such a way that she has earned the respect of not only our members but the leaders of the marine industry around the country . The devastation to marine industry caused by Super Storm Sandy was unprecedented. While continuing with her regular duties, Melissa has guided us in the creation and implementation of a special relief fund, a program to assist those members that were most affected by the storm. Without her knowledge, guidance and relentless work ethic the MTA/NJ would not be the organization it is today. She does this all while raising a family and maintaining a balanced personal life."
Kronman was chosen by the CAHMPC Board because he has been a long-standing champion of higher education for CAHMPC, seeking to become a Certified Marina Manager himself. Brad Gross, CAHMPC Board member commented, "Mick, like many, has had some challenges over the last few years, but he has always faced them with a positive and can-do attitude. Furthermore, Mick is a model of the type of professional we all believe should represent our industry as a Certified Marina Manager."
The Neil Ross Scholarship was formed in recognition of the numerous contributions that Neil Ross has made to the Association of Marina Industries and to the marina industry overall. The award is given annually to provide financial assistance for training.
