Sunday, September 7th 4pm-7pm
Messfest is just around the corner! I know this because the youth office right now is filled to the brim with weird and wonderful items. From jars of pickles to mammoth cans of nacho cheese sauce; from inflatable baby pools to scooters; I've got wooden stakes, 36 cans of silly string, shaving foam, neon orange perimeter fencing, water-bottles prepped with paint, squirt guns, powdered paint, receipts for hay bales and I spent my Labor Day making nearly 30 gallons of jello.
For those of you who are still in the dark about what Messfest is, or those who have recognized that this weird event seems to occur at this time every year and that the Youth Ministry seems to go into a bit of a frenzy, allow me to shed some light. Messfest is a 3 hour event on Sunday evening, between 4pm and 7pm. It's filled with games that will get you really really messy, yummy food and an epic mudslide. Even the Paradise Fire Department comes to hose us clean(-ish) at the end.
It's all good fun, but there's also a long-lasting reason for continuing to support this annual event. Messfest kicks-off our youth Fall programing, it sets the tone for the semester, it gives youth an opportunity to invite their friends and relatives to have messy fun on a scale they can't do many other places, and it's a way for us as youth leaders and parents to launch a teenager's interest in church activities. We work hard to establish whether a visiting student is already connected to a church home or youth group, and we deliver welcome packs with information on all the church programs (adult, children and youth) on our Home Blitz the Saturday following the event. Most of all, the over 30 adult volunteers that make this event possible love teenagers, love watching teenagers have fun and being a part of their lives in every way.
So, I encourage you, if you've never witnessed the sight of Messfest before, swing by the church ball field between 4pm and 7pm this Sunday afternoon and I guarantee you won't regret it.
Blessings, Emma

Starting Septemb er 7th!
8:30am Classic Traditional Service - Continuing our trend of excellent traditional worship with our various robed choirs, piano, organ and familiar hymns and liturgies just at a time that more reflects the habits and needs of our community.
9:45am Cafe Service in Fellowship Hall - Retaining a contemporary style with an acoustic touch, this service will embrace its intimate size and move around tables in a more casual atmosphere. Great coffee and more conversation with the same relevant teaching will highlight this newly revised service.
11:00am Contemporary Service - Our own version of contemporary worship that includes the new songs you've come to love as well as some old familiar hymns done in updated ways along with the same relevant teaching, occasional traditional elements, and regular observation of the sacraments.

Mission Moment
What a blessing it is to be a part of a church which has a heart for missions! This year through Faith Promise you have provided food and clothing for many families in need from our own NUMC Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. Backpacks were provided for many needy children in our area and financial support was given to the United Methodist Women Feeding Program, Helping Hands, Warrick Habitat for Humanity, United Methodist Youth Home, Good News Prison and Jail Ministry, Evansville Rescue Mission, Hope Central, Ruth House (United Caring Shelters), Red Bird Mission, Bless the Schools, Simpson UMC - Team Jesus, Gilda's House, Campus Outreach and Mountain Mission were Local and National missions receiving our assistance. Also your money touched the world by supporting these missionaries: Lowell and Claudia Wertz with "Joy in the Harvest" in Africa, Randall and Rachel Coleman with "OMS International" in Ecuador and Tom Heaton serving God in Guatemala. UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) reaches out to those in great need and The Slavic Reformation Society provides seminary education to those serving in Russia. Operation Classroom received money for their ongoing programs to provide Christian-based education and health care in Liberia and Sierra Leone, Africa. Through your continued support of Faith Promise you are giving many precious souls hope....and a future. Please keep all of these missions in your prayers for safety, strength and direction as they do our Lord's work.
