Sunday, May 19, 20138:15am Commission servants8:30am go out & Change the World10:45 return to NUMC for Worship12 Noon potluck dinner in gym
This Sunday is Change the World. At church everyone will be invited to participate in a service project; You can join with one of these projects listed below or create your own mission. The aim is to do something to make a difference and be an agent of good in our community. So wear your Change the World T-shirt (or a red shirt). Depending on your project, you may wish to bring work gloves. Come ready to have a great time loving God by loving others.
Missional Opportunities include:
Newburgh Elementary Landscaping - Adventurers will be going to Newburgh Elementary to do landscapte clean-up and weeding again....they were very appreciative last year. (Bob Sexton) Cypress Grove Nursing Home Visits - Pathfinders will be going to Cypress Grove Nursing Home that morning to go room to room to visit, read the Sunday newspaper to residents and have our normal devotional time. Let me know if you need more details. (Randy Salley) Gazebo Refurbishing - F5 Class is going to be applying waterproofing to the cabin and gazebo down by the Newburgh Old Dam. This is owned by the Town of Newburgh and is a park area. (Melissa Rea) Hope Central - The Truthfinders Class will be starting their mission to Hope Central in Boonville. Hope Central offers a wide array of services to the community to diminish the effects of poverty, to assist individuals in ending the cycle of poverty and to offer a future with hope. The class is donating items which are not covered by our own Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, but will be a supplement. This will be our ongoing mission once a quarter. If anyone would like to help us gather, pack and deliver on Change The World Sunday or would like to donate items, please contact Celeste Baumholser. (Celeste Baumholser) Clean-Up Outer Lincoln - Good News Fellowship Class will be picking up trash along Outer Lincoln between Martin and Anderson. (Joe Williams) Senior Center - The Pairs & Spares Class will be going to the Newburgh Senior Citizen's Center. (Ray Graham) Youth Home - The Pairs & Spares Class will be doing landscaping and clean-up at the United Methodist Youth Home. (Ray Graham) Wine Festival Clean-Up - Some youth will be going to help clean-up down on the river following the Wine Festival. International Sunday School Class Needs Help for "Change the World Sunday"
The International Sunday School Class is organizing a drive for canned goods and back packs for the United Methodist Youth Home in Evansville.
The Day Treatment Program at the United Methodist Youth Home is planning to start a program for the students to have a back pack of food to take home for the weekend. Many of the students come from homes that are not food secure. It is the Youth Home's hope to start a food pantry in order to supply kids with food for the weekend. We are asking the NUMC congregation to help our class supplement the supplies that we will be purchasing. Items include the following: plain inexpensive back packs, single serve items with pull top lids that can be heated up in a microwave. For example, spaghettio's, beef stew, soup, ramen noodles and chili. Also, shelf-stable type meals that can be heated up in a microwave or mac & cheese that only requires water. Other items are packages of peanut butter and/or cheese crackers, peanut butter, peanuts, granola bars, fruit cups, pudding cups and juice boxes. Toilet tissue would be another handy item. And, of course monetary donations are always helpful. A box will be placed in the foyer for these supplies. Any money can be given to Karen or Lorrie in the church office. Thanks for helping us make a difference in these at-risk youth's lives.
