 This month, The Village newsletter from Global NP Solutions addresses Disruptive Innovation to help you get a head start on the new year.

This month's recommended reading reviews the famous and classic innovation text:  Clayton Christensen's "The Innovator's Dilemma."

How to Disrupt Innovatively

A Not-So-Catchy Title for an Important Subject

Clayton Christensen's seminal work on The Innovator's Dilemma has led to changes in the way we do the business of new product innovation and how we choose to innovate our business models. This in-depth thought leadership paper looks at Christensen's work and examines the most common criticisms of his work. Specifically, the paper:

  • Defines disruption in terms of reduced technology, newdisruptive innovation  technology, and advanced technology;
  • Explains how to structure an attack against disruption through a new business, ignoring the disruption, or embracing the disruption; and
  • Emphasizes maintaining the core business during scale-up.

Learn how reduced technologies, new technologies, and advanced technologies can all disrupt an industry. And specially, learn how to structure a new business or to ignore the disruption to maintain a focus on target markets.

An in-depth and readable paper that every new product development professional should have on their desktop!

The Innovator's Dilemma

the innovator's dilemma Recently, at The Innovator's Book Club on Linked In, we had an active discussion on the classic book for new product development, "The Innovator's Dilemma."

This classic tome covers the reasons why businesses fail to recognize emerging, or disruptive, innovations as they are happy to cut costs on low margin customers.  Yet, it's important to a firm to convert "non-consumers" to happy customers!
