Thank you to the Broome County Council of Churches for hosting our annual meeting!
Happy New Year! We hope 2015 is off to a great start. If you caught our December e-newsletter, you know that the Food and Health Network is starting the year off with the exciting addition of a new full-time staff Coordinator. This position is made possible by the generosity of the Conrad & Virginia Klee Foundation, which you can read more about below. We are very happy to announce that Erin Summerlee has been hired to fill this new role. Many of you know Erin from her two years of AmeriCorps service as our Education Coordinator, and we are excited to have her on board. You can reach Erin at [email protected] or 607-692-7669.  Lastly, we would also like to thank Ariela Yomtovian, our former FaHN AmeriCorps VISTA, for her exceptional service and contributing her many talents to the Food and Health Network.

We've been working hard over the past few months to meet our 2015 Membership & Sponsorship Campaign goal of $10,000, and to fill the Coordinator position. Hiring a full- time staff member is a huge achievement for FaHN and an important step towards scaling up regional food system work, but we still need your investment to increase food security, strengthen our farm and food economy, and improve health. FaHN's success is dependent on community support and participation, and your continued membership and sponsorship is critical as we expand our services to include increasing the number of children served through summer food service programs and food policy advocacy. In 2015 we will also continue to support farm to school initiatives, conduct needs assessments and education, and provide a thoughtful forum for collaboration.

If you haven't submitted your 2015 Membership and/or Sponsorship contribution, please do so today. Pledge forms can be found on our website by clicking here, and you can use Paypal to easily submit your Membership or Sponsorship online.

Thank you to all of the organizations and individuals listed below who have submitted their 2015 membership and/or sponsorship contributions.

FaHN Presents at the NYS Council on Food Policy Annual Winter Meeting
On Friday, January 16th, the Food and Health Network had the opportunity to attend the NYS Council on Food Policy Annual Winter meeting at Broome County Cornell Cooperative Extension. FaHN Steering Committee members presented to the council and attendees about the Network, food security, and farm to school, and offered policy recommendations. It was a great experience, and we learned about  many exciting initiatives across the state. FaHN would like to thank NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball, and members of the NYS Council on Food Policy. You can view our presentation and policy recommendations here.
