How you can Help Grow the Food and Health Network of South Central New York
Since 2005, The Food and Health Network of S.C.N.Y has worked towards creating a more vital, healthy, and just regional food system. As the network has grown so have our goals, and we need your help this year to reach our $10,000 membership and sponsorship campaign goal.
In the upcoming year we are excited to increase our work around policy and advocacy, improved communications, and collaborative resource development. FaHN will work to improve summer food access for kids, continue to support Farm to Institution in SCNY, host educational programming, and release new updates to sections of the Regional Food System Assessment.
Everyone is a food system stakeholder, and we invite you to join FaHN as a 2015 member or sponsor. Become a member or sponsor at the BITE into Our Region event on Friday, November 7th and you will also receive your choice of seeds or handmade local beeswax candles. Learn more and join here!
This year we have a special new addition to the campaign, thanks to four local food businesses. As a reward for your help, we are offering unique prizes for the top two member and top two sponsor recruiters!
Black Bear Winery: A four person tour and tasting at the unique Black Bear Winery, a fruit winery nestled in a warm cabin in a beautiful part of Broome County. The types of wine change by the month and there is always a new taste to discover with owners Sandy and Mark Stacey.
Finger Lakes Distilling: A four person tour and tasting at the one and only Finger Lakes Distillery, a NYS Farm Distilling. Brian McKenzie and Earl McKenzie both share a passion for spirits and decided to work together to create a distillery on the shores of Seneca Lake.
Brewery Ommegang: A four person tour and tasting at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, the town that once was the king of hop production. The brewery was built back in 1997 on 136 acres of land that once was a hop farm. It was actually the first farmstead brewery to be built in the United States in over 100 years!
Finger Lakes Tea: A four person tour and tasting at the only tea farm in the Finger Lakes. Mark and Lily are passionate about tea and are excited to share it with all those folks who are also curious about the production and art of tea.
We would like to thank all those organizations who have been kind enough to offer these prizes to the Food and Health Network. We are truly grateful for your contributions! Contact vista-fahn@rhnscny.org to learn more.

Farm to School and Institution Survey for NYS Producers
|
Growing Food Connections Policy Database
|
The "Sustaining Farm to School in New York State" pilot program is administering a survey to New York State produce growers to learn more about producers' participation in farm to school and other institutions. The survey will also gauge current needs, interests, opportunities, and barriers associated with participating in farm to school and farm to institution in New York State. The results from this survey will inform our projects and ultimately assist interested growers to take advantage of institutional market demand.
If you are a produce farmer in NYS, we would greatly appreciate your time in completing this 15-minute survey. If you are an agricultural service provider, we would greatly appreciate your time in distributing this survey to produce farmers in your area. Take the survey here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/J88Q3KR.
The deadline is Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Please contact Rose Zonetti with questions.

The database is a searchable collection of local public policies that explicitly support community food systems. This database provides concrete examples of local public policies that have been adopted to address a range of food systems issues. Search the database.
