New York State Food Metrics Bill Signed Into Law
On December 18th, 2013, Governor Cuomo signed the Food Metrics Bill (S.4061 /A.5102)
into law. The Food Metrics Bill requires state agencies to establish food purchasing, tracking, and reporting systems that will provide data on the geographic source of food being purchased, and the amount of money spent. The bill also lays the groundwork for encouraging institutions to purchase regionally produced food. You can learn more about the bill here.
