Feature Article Meet One of Our New Teachers!
Mr. Fox - Fifth Grade and Football/Basketball Coach
Educational Background: I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Sociology from Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania and a Business Certificate from New York University's Stern School of Business. In addition, I have a variety of firefighting and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certificates from years as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and swift-water rescue technician.
Work experience: In addition to the classes I have taught and sports that I have coached, I have run summer camp programs for students ranging in age from 4 to 18, taught summer school, and done a variety of private tutoring, coaching, and physical training.
Hobbies, special interests: I love the outdoors. I enjoy playing and coaching all sorts of different sports, hiking, camping, skiing, fishing, boating, and doing just about anything outside with my wife, Kacie, and our Golden Retriever, Lincoln.
What motivated you to become a teacher? In college, the best professor that I have ever had recommended that I look into becoming a teacher. He is a great man, an outstanding educator, and I respected him and his opinion immensely. With his recommendation, I attended an interview process with a teacher recruitment firm, and the rest, as they say, is history...
Any additional responsibilities you've performed in a school environment?
I have taught a variety of subjects, including Government, Economics, American History, Math, and Physical Education. I have also coached soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse, track and field, and cross country teams in elementary, middle, and high schools. I have enjoyed taking on additional roles, such as facilitating and advising student government, community service, debate, and outdoor adventure programs. I have also served as Assistant Athletic Director of a vast middle school athletics program.
What do you love most about teaching? I enjoy too many aspects of teaching to list so briefly, but I have to say that what I love most is being able to see the strengths, qualities, potential, and growth of students in multiple environments. I enjoy teaching multiple subjects both in the classrooms and on the fields, in order to convey and connect material and life lessons in as many ways as possible. I also truly value the extensive communication that takes place in a private school environment, allowing the teachers, parents, and children to communicate in a variety of ways to best facilitate the betterment of each and every child. I'm very excited to be working with the great people at Fairmont!
