What did you do this summer?
Ethan Chen is a fifth grader in Miss Romo's class and has been at Fairmont since preschool. This is what he did this summer...
On July 4, 2013 Ethan Chen competed at the USA Taekwondo National Championships in Chicago and received a Gold Medal in his
Poomsae (forms) division. The 2013 USA Taekwondo Nationals is a week long and had more than 4000 competitors this year. His division had more than 80 competitors from around the USA who all qualified in a State Championship. His journey to being the National Champion began in January 2013 where he qualified for the Nationals at the Nevada State Championship, where he also received a gold medal in his division. Throughout the year, he competes in various tournaments locally and out of state as a practice leading up to the National Championship.
Congratulations Ethan, we are very proud of your accomplishments!

Meet One of Our New Teachers!
Mrs. Amanda Cooper - Third Grade
Educational Background:I received my BA in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education from CSUF and obtained
my teaching credential from Rio Salado in Tempe, Arizona. I currently hold a California Multiple Subjects Clear Credential, and plan on returning to school in the future to obtain my Master's Degree in Reading Education.
Work experience: I have six years of teaching experience. I taught 2nd grade for four years, a 1st/2nd ELD combination class for one year, and a 2nd/3rd combination class for one year.
Hobbies, special interests: I love reading, especially when it involves sitting on a beach. I love any activity that involves water- cruising, rafting, fishing, going to the beach, swimming- I love it all!! I have two sons, one is 17 and the other is 9. My 17-year-old son plays football and runs track, and I enjoy watching him participate in both sports. Although, I'll admit that I may enjoy watching track more because I don't have to worry about him getting hurt. My 9-year-old son is a competitive gymnast, so a lot of our time is spent in the gym. I love watching him perfect his craft.
What motivated you to become a teacher? I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a very small child "teaching" my stuffed animals in my bedroom. Once I became a mother I knew that I wanted to be a teacher even more because I knew that I wanted to be the type of teacher that parents want teaching their child(ren). I give my students and their families what I want from my sons' teachers...quality instruction, respect, love, and so much more!
What do you love most about teaching? I love the relationships that I build with students and their families, great learning is built on great relationships.
