Junior High Spirit Day
S-P-I-R-I-T...who's got spirit?  Our Junior High had a spirit day this week and it was a blast!  Each homeroom class had a color and the campus was a sea of colors: pink, yellow, blue, purple, red, and green.  During the winter sports rally there were "Minute to Win It" competitions between the homeroom classes.  Games such as dice-building on a Popsicle stick, Oreo cookie eating (with NO hands) and stacking blocks on a plate on your partner's head were so much fun!

Tri-Way Girls Volleyball Banner
With great pride, the banner for the Tri-Way Girls Volleyball Champions was unveiled at the winter sports pep rally.  The girls had an unparalleled season, never losing a single game in the entire season!  Congratulations to our amazing girls!

Locks of Love Cut-a-Long

Do you have long hair? Or will you have long hair by March? If so, save that hair to donate to Locks of Love!

On a date to be determined in March, there will be a school-wide assembly educating the school about how and why the Locks of Love organization makes wigs from donated hair. We will then take "live" donations one by one on stage. After the assembly, hair stylists from The Cartel Salon will style the hair of the people who donated to a beautiful new hair-do!

If you or your child is qualified (10 inches of pony tail to cut) and are willing to donate your hair for this great cause, please contact Heather Lopez  (714) 693-3812 x1363 or email her at helopez@fairmontschools.com so she can get an idea of how many stylists are needed for this event.

Special Academic Counseling Opportunity for 8th Graders

Mrs. Weems, the 9th grade Academic Counselor for 2013-14 incoming freshman at Fairmont Prep, will be on site at the Anaheim Hills Campus for one day, January 30. Parents who sign up in advance for a 45-minute appointment will be able to meet one-on-one with Mrs. Weems to create their student's Prep Four-Year High School to College Plan. Mrs. Weems will have the student's transcripts at the meeting, so she can suggest the best and most individualized course of study.

For those interested in the Medical Magnet or Engineering Magnet, an appointment with Mr. Prado, the Magnet Counselor is advised. Mr. Prado would be happy to schedule 45-minute appointments with those Fairmont 8th grade parents who contact him directly. Email Mr. Prado directly to meet with him at the Prep. His email address is rprado@fairmontschools.com.

Please contact Corey Fenner at cfenner@fairmontschools.com to sign up for your time with Mrs. Weems on January 30. Space is limited.

Violin and Cello Lessons?

Violin 1
This week our violin and cello instructor, Anthea Tse invited all of the fifth grade violin and cello students' parents and grandparents to discover what their students had learned in their string classes.

The fifth graders talked to their families about how to hold the instruments and how to play. The students performed several songs for their parents and grandparents after they gave them a few "lessons!"  It was wonderful to see how skilled and talented our students are and to see how much they truly enjoyed teaching their families about all that they have learned so far this year.
