You've decided to invest in a hardwood project - congrats! Easy enough, right? Well, not so fast! There is species, construction, width, color and luster to consider... and ahem that-ever-so-looming: budget. Not to mention - are you interested in a site-finished or prefinished hardwood floor?

This month, we are excited to announce our revamped Hardwood Finish-On-Site Program :) Our program offers 16 stains, which can be paired with various species, widths, lusters and finishes. Our Bona stain colors include: Nutmeg, Early American, Red Mahogany, Golden Oak, Special Walnut, Jacobean, Graphite, Rosewood, Provincial, Antique Brown, Medium Brown and Cherry. To compliment Bona, we are offering the following DuraSeal colors too: Classic Grey, Dark Walnut, Spice Brown and Coffee. Did you see a color you like? If not, that's ok! We can create a custom stain color for your project! Possibilities, endless.

To those Pinterest and Houzz dreamers, you've likely noticed a trend - dark floors. There are pros and cons to both light and dark floors - so, it's best to consider your light source, floor plan, paint color(s), wood and furniture with this decision. Dark floors are great for old floors, as they camouflage oil marks, water stains and knots. They are also well-suited for larger homes with an open floor plan. On the contrary, is your goal to make your home appear larger? Then, go light! Plus, lighter floors appear 'cleaner' - show less dust! #Winning.

Just as luster is an important factor to consider for cabinets and countertops, it plays a vital role with hardwood flooring. Shiny and semi-gloss finishes are out - it's all about the satin and matte finishes. It's important to remember that the glossier you go, the more reflective your floor will appear - therefore, dust, dirt, imperfections... (and dog hair!) are much more noticeable. Let your home's personality shine in other ways!

So - what sets us apart from the rest? Great question. We like to think great service and great products - after all, we are Great Western ;) On top of high quality products (which include partnering with reputable sources), we have invested in an atomic dust containment system - which remove 93-98% of dust from the air. Plus, it's the only GREENGUARD certified system on the market.

See you soon!
 Flooring Tip of the Month
7 Tips for Maintaining Hardwood Floors:
  1. Clean up spills immediately and clean floors on a routine basis. GWF recommends Bona Hardwood Cleaner.
  2. DO NOT use vinegar and water or other oil, silicone, wax, citrus or soap-based products! The use of these products can dull the finish and/or prevent the application of future finish coats, if desired.
  3. Most importantly, use minimal moisture: Do not use wet mops or steam mops! Keep standing water away from floor.
  4. Use area rugs at doorways and in high traffic areas to prevent sand and grit from meeting the wood. Only wear shoes when necessary and keep abrasive items away from wood. Felt pads should be used under furniture to protect floor.
  5. Close curtains and blinds to prevent sun damage and use caution when moving heavy objects/furniture.
  6. Dog owner? Suggestion: upgrade to a commercial-rated finish (like LOBADUR Supra) or consider adding an extra coat of polyurethane finish.
