You might not realize it until you buy a new house: bare windows truly make any space feel unfinished. And not to cause further angst - but, there are countless options. Drapes or cafe curtains? Metal blinds or Roman shades? Shutters or honeycombs? Throw away any misconceptions that may hinder your decision and allow style and functionality to be your guide.

This month we are featuring Shutters by Hunter Douglas, a favorite for many of us at GWF. Shutters are clean, crisp and classic. In fact, it's understood in the industry that it's the only window covering to add resale value to a home, much like hardwood floors! Lucky for you, Hunter Douglas offers three collections: Heritance (hardwood shutters), NewStyle (hybrid shutters) and Palm Beach (polysatin shutters). Not only is it a captivating aesthetic to any room, but Shutters have the unique ability to provide both privacy and ventilation (in one!). For all of the allergy sufferers... you will love the easy-to-clean aspect of these products. Yes, we can all agree that fully-bloomed flowers and lush, green grass are beautiful - but many allergens are also in full-bloom over these warm summer months.

Regardless if you are buying a new home, decorating an office or find yourself looking up one day to recognize how outdated your window coverings appear, Hunter Douglas has an option for you. As we find ourselves immersed in hot, humid summer days, let us leave you with this intriguing fact: up to 50% of your home's heating and cooling energy can be lost through your windows. Invest now, save later.

Hope to see you soon!

Flooring Tip of the Month
5 Tips on Keeping your Home Cooler this Summer:
  1. Shut & lock windows when the air conditioning is on.
  2. Caulk around any basement and storm windows.
  3. Close curtains on South and West facing windows during the day.
  4. Install white window shades or blinds to reflect heat away from the house.
  5. Invest in Shutters! Louvered shutters work best for summer shading. The movable louvers allow ventilation and natural daylight to enter a room, while blocking UV rays.
