Additional Year-End Tax Advantages: IRS Section 179

Located in the USA? Thinking about acquiring and financing new equipment? If so, you have until December 31, 2013 to take advantage of IRS Section 179 before it's dramatically reduced in 2014.

Section 179 is a special tax deduction allowing you to recover all or part of your equipment cost in the year it's put into service. Equipment must be for business use. This is a method to quickly write-off the equipment instead of depreciating the equipment over its lifespan. In 2013, companies are allowed to write-off as much as $500,000 of equipment acquired over the course of the year. Always consult your tax advisor for complete details.

For more information on IRS Section 179, including an example of how it works, please visit http://omnileasing.net/irs-section-179-allowance/.

ACS™ – Anti-Cure System Standard on All Direct Jet 1024UVHS Printers

There are many reflective, shiny and/or mirrored (RSM substrates) surfaces that require a UV print for personalization and/or decoration. While there is always some risk involved with printing to these surfaces, it can be minimized and controlled. Standard on all Direct Jet 1024UVHS models, Direct Color Systems has designed the ACS to diminish the curing of ink in print head nozzles when printing on RSM substrates through a precise combination of firmware, reflectors, sensors, and software settings. Direct Jet 1014UV and 1024UV models come equipped with a simple mechanical version of the ACS.

Similar to anti-lock braking systems on motor vehicles, the ACS system itself does not guarantee accident avoidance. Improper operation of the equipment can still result in the curing of ink inside the print head nozzles. DCS recommends that you review your user guide and follow the standard operating procedure to ensure proper head height when printing to any RSM substrate. Failure to follow these guidelines could result in UV light reflecting or refracting towards the print head, increasing the risk of curing the inks in the nozzles and on the nozzle plate, which could damage the print head. This damage would not be covered by warranty.

Tech Tip: Choosing the Correct RIP 9 Print Mode
DCS Tech Tips

With nearly 50 different options to choose from in Color Byte RIP 9, understanding when to use specific print modes and related settings is vital to achieving the desired output for your application. The key is finding a balance between production time and quality.

In this Tech Tip, we provide guidelines for choosing print modes and settings for a variety of application samples that are popular with owners of DCS Direct Jet UV LED printers. These examples represent a diverse range of substrates, production time requirements, adhesion and quality expectations. For example:

Print mode guidelines for 3D objects3D Objects

Printing Substrate: Golf Ball

Print Mode: Photo Color Only Quality

Suggested Setting Change: None

Description: DCS UV printers allow the user to print large diameters on three-dimensional objects. This particular print mode puts down larger dots, which have the ability to fall further after being jetted from the print head. The mode also prints in Uni-Directional, which yields better accuracy in terms of dot placement. Most users who print golf balls are doing so in significant quantities. Therefore, production time plays a big role. This print mode keeps a good balance between production time and quality of print.

Technical Services Corner: New System for Support Requests

DCS is continually striving to improve its customer support. To further enhance our customers' experience, we have developed a new database for technical support service requests. In order for us to assist you in the most efficient manner, DCS will require the serial number of your printer at the beginning of each and every service request, call or email. This number can be found by the power cord input plate on Direct Jet printers, or on the rear panel of any of the small Millennium printers.

When contacting DCS Technical Support with a callback request, please leave us your printer serial number, company name, contact person and return telephone number. For those customers who have become acquainted with specific support personnel here at DCS over the years, we urge you not to contact them directly, but rather use the direct Technical Support telephone number of 860-829-1027 or 800-693-6376. Faster service can be obtained by using this number instead of contacting your favorite support person, because that individual may be on a call and unable to call you back as quickly as the next available technician can.

Although this system of requesting a serial number may be slightly more time consuming for you, in the end DCS will be able to record, review and make engineering changes as necessary to ensure a better product for all. For calls that are not "closed" in a single conversation, you may be given a case number. In order to better serve you, please refer to this number if you need to follow up with DCS Technical Support on the same matter.

We thank you for your cooperation as we implement these new policies to serve you better and make ongoing product improvements more efficiently!

Now in its 3rd year, the two-day meeting attracted distributors representing 22 countries from around the region. Led by DCS President Blair Allen and Rui Carvalho, Director of Sales and Business Development (EAA), the team of distributors was treated to an exclusive hands-on premier of DCS's soon-to-be-announced next-generation UV printer model, as well as other DCS breakthroughs such as ADA-compliant/Braille signage printing.

Rounding out the festivities on day two was a boat trip up the scenic Douro River to the UNESCO World Heritage Port Wine Region. The entire team enjoyed lunch aboard the ship prior to a visit to the Quinta do Castelinho vineyards – a truly enjoyable experience for all. What will DCS have in store for 2014?
