Children's Music Foundation

August 2016

Thank You Don!
Last May, CMF held its annual BRIDGES fundraiser where among other items, a  Ventures 50-year anniversary guitar was auctioned.

Included was a visit with Ventures original Don Wilson (pictured) where he played, told stories, an signed the guitar.

Thank you Rochelle for supporting our Foundation, and surprising your father with such a cool an memorable gift!

CMF Program Support

CMF is proud to announce that after serving as the volunteer manager for our BRIDGES 2016 benefit, Linda Abraham has joined our team in the role of Program Support.  She will be connecting with our partner schools to see that they are taken care of and relay feedback from our teachers as to how we can make First Note even better. Welcome Lianda!

First Note is "IT"

My name is Faye Allen.  I am the Primary Music Specialist at Prairie View Elementary School in Spokane, WA (pictured), and former owner, director, and choreographer of the Children's Dance Theatre in San Diego. I have been a teacher of Music and Dance for over 40 years. and hold my Masters of Education.

I have just reviewed your email describing the FIRST NOTE curriculum for Kindergarten and First Grades.  For the very first time in my 40+ year career, I can honestly say THIS IS IT!!!
You and your team of professionals at the  Children's Music Foundation have perfectly written a curriculum that is user-friendly and all-inclusive!  Most of all, this curriculum includes activities focused on engaging our kids in music through movement!

Age 5 is Too Late

Scientific research into brain development and the optimal learning window from zero to age 5 is conclusive. The quality of care and experiences during the early years of life literally
sets the stage for all future interactions and ability to learn (more).

Unpacking the Science: How Playing Music Changes the Learning Brain

Ani Patel, an associate professor of psychology at Tufts University and the author of "Music, Language, and the Brain," says that while listening to music can be relaxing and contemplative, the idea that simply plugging in your iPod is going to make you more intelligent doesn't quite hold up to scientific scrutiny.

"On the other hand," Patel says, "there's now a growing body of work that suggests that actually learning to play a musical instrument does have impacts on other abilities." (more).
