CMF Awarded WA State Grant
 
The Washington State Legislature increased educations spending a record 19% in its last session. In that budget, funds were set aside  in a competitve grant format to provide a music program to Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade students,with preference given to those schools that demonstrate the most need such as Head Start, and Title 1 schools.
 
CMF was awarded the $50,000 grant over the next 2 years and as a result, thousands more students and their teachers will enjoy First Note!

Baltimore Kids Get a Head Start!

St. Vincent DePaul operates 7 Head Start Centers in Baltimore, MD, and thanks to generous corporate grants, each of them now have First Note! They have a total of 43 classrooms and could use more kits so if you'd like to help out, email info@cmfinc.org.

About 5 million students in the US -- or 9% of public-school enrollment -- are English-language learners, with almost 80% of ELL students coming from Spanish-speaking homes, data show. Reports show improved achievement among ELL students since No Child Left Behind took effect (more).

Classroom teachers with little formal musical training face a challenge in teaching music to preschool and primary school children. First Note was developed to address this issue and tested with 130 children and their teachers participating in a pilot study (more).
