COGCS Conference a Success!

CMF had an opportunity to attend the 59th annual Great City Schools Conference last week. Special Projects Director Kim Norton (pictured above and below) was busy sharing the benefits of First Note with attendees from around the country!

UCLA alums Kim and keynote speaker George McKenna (above) share stories. Conference attendees were treated to several music performances from local area students (below).

Thank You Wells Fargo!
Thanks to a grant from Wells Fargo Bank, CMF will be providing the First Note Music Program to several more classrooms in the Puget Sound area!

Homemade Instruments a Hit!

First Note has added a new feature to the program! Subscribers can now download instructions on how young students can make instruments at home. The Can Drum and Box Zither are featured above. The kids love them!

One of the more significant benefits of these projects is the opportunity for students to engage their parents and other family members in a project or "homework" that they can have fun doing together.

CMF is proud to work with Turnaround Arts in supplying the First Note Music Program to a number of their participating schools.

Led by the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, a White House advisory committee on cultural issues, together with the US Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts, local partners, and several private foundations, Turnaround Arts brings arts education programs and supplies to a group of the lowest-performing elementary and middle schools in the country (more).
