November 2014

Raising Hands is an annual event hosted by The Tulalip Tribes Tulalip Cares to honor recipient charities in different community impact categories. CMF Directors Rourke O'Brien and Sayoko Kuwahara (pictured below) attended the event. According to Tulalip "It is traditional to raise our hands to applaud and give thanks to those who have given to us. We raise our hands to the numerous organizations in our region that contribute to our communities."

Tulalip is committed to improving arts and culture, education and youth, the environment, health care, public safety, and social services in their  communities. Since 1993, Tulalip has donated over $50 million which encompasses over 245 charitable organizations annually.

Making a Difference

Last week, the Fulcrum Foundation invited stakeholders to an "Investors Breakfast" where we were presented with an overview of the Foundations works in supporting Catholic education in the Seattle Archdiocese. Nearly $4 million was provided by Fulcrum this past year in the form of financial aid to schools, students, and teachers. Those that support the Foundation are truly "investing" in the future not only of our students, but for everyone!

First Note and Common Core

Recently, we've been asked about standards and the Common Core. Does First Note meet state standards, the national standards, and now the Common Core? The National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS) has writing teams who are revising the national standards in the four arts disciplines: dance, music, theatre, and visual art. They are also creating standards for a fifth discipline, media arts. The writers of the National Music Standards are utilizing the Common Core State Standards as a model for their work. More information about the progress of the writing teams is available here.

CMF Benefit Gala Has a Name

On May 14, 2015, CMF will hold its 3rd annual benefit gala newly titled "Bridges - Connecting Lives through Music."  We wanted the name to reflect the link that music has to so many other subjects and most importantly to the students and their classmates.  We hope to see you there!
