Remembering One of Our Early Supporters

Jim Faulstich passed away peacefully on September 22, 2013 (he is pictured above with the Gothard Sisters at a CMF fundraiser held at his home). Having a lifelong passion for the performing arts, Jim was a dedicated Seattle Opera Board Trustee. The world has lost a philanthropist, a humanitarian, and a voice. So many have been inspired by his wisdom and actions. He will be remembered and honored for generations to come.

Producing Results

We are very pleased with the early results of our program, as all the scores of the children's self-evaluation improved, both regarding musical, and social ability. There was a statistically significant improvement (change towards more positive evaluation) of musical ability in general. Specifically, improvement was significant for instruments and culture.  There was also improvement in family support and in attitude towards school. We are expecting to have the full report ready to be published by early November.

The Future of Learning

In a TIME Magazine article written by L. Rafael Reif, the President of MIT, he states that "digital learning is the most important innovation in education since the printing press..." and "when the class of 2025 arrives on campuses, these technologies will have reshaped the entire concept in college in ways we cannot yet predict."

He also states that digital technologies are remarkably good at teaching content and that (college) students taught through a highly interactive "flipped classroom" approach did nearly twice as well as peers taught via traditional lectures. Digital learning technologies offer a second advantage: flexibility. By making it possible to break course content into dozens of small conceptual modules of instruction and testing, digital learning allows students to engage the material anytime, any day, and as often as the need to, anywhere in the world. CMF doesn't believe for a minute that having our youngest students learning solely online is in their future, but technology is already playing a role as a tool for our classroom teachers to do more with less.

Thank You Loeb Family Foundation

Thanks to a second grant just awarded to CMF, we are able to offer the First Note Music Curriculum to between 12 and 15 of our most undeserved classrooms. As a supporter of education with an emphasis on those most in need, the Loeb Family Charitable Foundations was an early participant in helping us develop the program. On behalf of more than 300 students that will benefit from your gift - thank you Loeb Family!
