Denise Louie to Offer First Note

Denise Louie Education Center is named after a young Chinese-American activist who played an integral role in revitalizing Seattle's International District before her tragic death.

At the time of her death,

Denise was heavily involved as a board member of Interim (International District Improvement Association), a community planning agency, which was spearheading the effort to revitalize the International District. Today, Denise Louie Education Center serves over 300 children (prenatal to five years old) with quality, mutli-cultural preschool service, comprehensive home visiting services, and Play and Learn groups. These services are funded by Head Start/Early Head Start, Step Ahead, Working Connection Child Care, United Way, USDA, and grants from foundations and donors.

Thank you 4Culture!

Once again, 4Culture's generous support has provided a local school with the gift of the First Note music curriculum beginning this upcoming school year. 4Cultures' Open 4Culture program provides awards

for projects created by, or for underserved communities, including groups and individuals that may not have equitable access to the arts, heritage or preservation opportunities, due to income, geography, age, physical abilities, race or ethnicity.

The Rise of Blended Learning

Schools nationwide are increasingly adopting blended learning, with a recent report estimating that about two-thirds of districts had some form of blended learning in place in 2012.  Supporters say blended learning - in which students learn through a combination of online and traditional methods - is a potential  solution for engaging students. The way in which the teaching method is implemented varies, but this new teaching strategy is proving effective.

The First Note music curriculum, when "blended" with a passionate classroom teacher has shown to be an exceptional teaching tool!

"Check Out" Seattle Public Library

Last week, CMF met with the Seattle Public Library at their downtown branch (pictured below) and decided test market the First Note music curriculum by offering it to library patrons.  All 30 lessons will soon be available and can be checked out 5 lessons at a time on a single DVD.
