An Evening With Raffi

The First Note staff had a special opportunity last month to spend an evening with Raffi Cavoukian and other supporters of education for our youngest students.

Raffi Guitar

Lively discussion and music filled a  large part of the evening. Our own Artistic Director and Trainer, Sinae Cheh, just happened  to have her Changgo with her and, with a little coaxing, treated us all to a demonstration.

Raffi Applauding

The conversation quickly turned back to our youngest students where Raffi shared his work and goals at the Centre for Child Honouring, an

organization that he founded.

Sinae Korean Song

Before the evening was over, Sinae had us all signing a Korean children's song. Fun was had by all even if our Korean needed some work!

What Teachers Are Saying...

Schools are loving First Note!

Teachers love the program because it's so easy to use, and students love the program because it's incredibly fun. Here are some of the comments we received last month:

 Frankie with Pointer

"Students ask for music day, every day, and sing songs and rhymes by themselves just to pass the time."

"Some classes want more lessons throughout the year, so they don't have to 'save' First Note for once a week."

"I really wish the cultural guest section were longer. It always goes by too quickly," says one teacher, and another teacher heard her student whisper, "This is my favorite part."

"With so much to cover at the beginning of the school year, one of the teachers waited a couple weeks before starting the program, but as soon as she started the first lesson, she thought, 'If I knew it was this easy, I would have started on the first day!'"

"Behavioral problems are non-existent during Music Time, because everyone is so engaged."

"They all love Miss Melody, and wait in anticipation for the day she might surprise them in class."

Homework Can Be Fun
Homemade Bongos

In the earliest grades, it's interesting how homework can be fun, as for many children it's a sign that they are now "big kids." The First Note team is creating fun homework projects that engage both the students and their families. You'd be amazed at how creative the studentsHomemade Guitar can be
when given the chance. Simple to make, eco-friendly instrument projects using household items will be made available on the teachers-only section of our website soon!

The First Note Store Is Open!

Egg Shakers Teachers have been asking us where they can purchase additional CDs, rhythmsticks, and egg shakers. The complete program includes 25 sets of rhythm sticks, egg shakers, and CDs.  These are intended to be given to students to keep.  Some teachers have experienced the number of their students increased during the school year. Additional items can now be purchased to make sure that no student is left out. First Note is proud to announce that the store is now open where you can purchase these items and more.
