I'm in my mid-thirties and married. My struggles have more to do with the fact that I do
not realize how terrible acting out is. Do you have any messages I may convey to myself why I should not act out?
A veteran GYE members responds:
Have you ever attended a Siddur party or Chumash play for one of your children? It should be a time of great Nachas. But, when we're not clean from pornography and masturbation, the joy of the moment is greatly compromised. Either because we're feeling guilty, or because we're too busy lusting to appreciate the moment (or both). This is not only true on special occasions, but in experiencing the joys of everyday life.
I once read something that blew me away: someone who was in the throes of addiction lamented that he hardly remembered his own children's Chasunas - he was too busy lusting the entire time! What a tragedy!
Lust is the biggest "ganev" - it steals from us our joy in life, both the everyday simple joys, as well as the greater joys that Hashem sends our way.

Hearing Voices? Join the Conversation.
Overheard:
"I don't mind hearing multiple voices in my head. Most of my closest friends do, too. My rule is that if they want to stay in my head, they must speak positively, kindly, and look for solutions. As soon as anyone of them starts criticizing, or says something derogatory or negative, I just kick him out. He knows he can always come back later, if he cleans up his act."
