Conquering Your Darkness

From Yeshiva.net

Each of us has a domain in our life that needs to be conquered, a terrain that needs to be transformed into a "holy land." Some of us need to battle fear, temptation, addiction, or shame. Since the challenges that lay in recovery's path are at times frightening, we are naturally tempted to believe that we are incapable of overcoming our darkness and we thus surrender to our demons.

Though this feeling is understandable, it is a sad mistake that must be fought tenaciously, for it robs us of the opportunity to liberate our souls and arrive at our personal "Promised Land."

Take marriage. Some people spend years speculating, "what if?" "What if I would have chosen someone else?" All that mental energy should be invested not in asking "what if" but rather, "how do I make it work."

The option of resignation compels us to remain stuck for the rest of our lives in a barren desert made up of shame, insecurity and weakness.

The question ought never be, "Can I do it?" The resources to repair the hole in our personal roof are always present. Every problem can be dealt with. The only legitimate question is, "How do I do it?"

Together, We Stand

By Hillel Hazukyn

Don't just lie there alone, come on out, join the group,

We're all fightin' a battle and we need every single troop,

We're all in this together, here's my hand, hold on tight,

I can't afford to lose you, so I'll pull with all my might.

There's no time for depression,when you're fighting a war,

If you fall, get up, quick, cause you know there'll be more.

And here's another reason, why we need you standing tall

'cause there are other soldiers that get hit and also fall,

but when they see you stand up straight and shake off the dirt,

it gives them strength to do the same and not lie down with self-hurt.

p.s.

That other soldier who got hit, was little old me,

I was trying to fight back with my own army,

but that never works, and I was going to fall,

then I remembered what Steve always says on the call.

If you're lusting then you're taking, yes, you're feeling greedy,

So the only way out is to help the needy.

Gratitude

Anyone can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burden of those two awful eternities, yesterday and tomorrow, that we break down. It is not the experience of today that drives us mad. It is the remorse or bitterness from something that happened yesterday or the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Am I living one day at a time? If I am grateful for today, I need not regret the past, nor worry about the future. I can get through today with the attitude of gratitude.

I pray that I may be constantly reminded of causes for sincere gratitude.

Meditation for the Day

"I give G-d the gift of a thankful heart. When life seems hard, I look for some reasons for thankfulness. If I seek diligently for something to be glad and thankful about, I will acquire in time the habit of being constantly grateful for all G-d's blessings."

Two more neshamos saved: a boy and a girl.

Vtaherlebeinu (girl) wrote:

GYE has helped me a lot in my recovery, and B"H I've reached levels I had never thought I was capable of. May you continue to help precious neshamos stay away from the tumah that is pulling at us.

A 16 year old boy called the hotline and told me that when he was 14, he was still not religious but he wanted to see what religious Jews say about this problem.

He found GuardYourEyes. After reading tons of material on the website, he decided to turn his life around, even though his whole family was against him. Today he is religious - and he's two years clean from internet garbage!

Submit your testimonial.

We are looking for testimony from recovering women, in particular (but not exclusively). This disease knows no gender bias, and we'd like to carry the message of hope to women of all ages who still suffer. Please share your story with us.
