Agreement reached in WRDA/WRRDA conference
PNWA is pleased to report that an agreement has been reached between Conference Committee members regarding water resources legislation. The following statement was released yesterday by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Senator David Vitter (R-LA), EPW Committee Ranking Member, and Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), T&I Ranking Member:
"We are proud to deliver what the American public wants and needs. This conference report maintains ports and navigation routes for commerce and the movement of goods, provides flood control that protects lives and property, and restores vital ecosystems to preserve our natural heritage. This important measure will strengthen our Nation's infrastructure and keep America competitive in the global marketplace."
PNWA priority issues in the bill include Section 214, Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund (HMTF), Inland Waterways Trust Fund, and Section 108. Details of the report have not been released and will likely not be available until the full Conference WRDA Report is filed next week. The bill is expected to head to the floor for votes the week of May 20th. PNWA previously provided an overview of the two bills, and will send updates as they are available.
