Rep. Doc Hastings announces retirement
Long-time Congressman and friend of PNWA, Rep. Doc Hastings (R, WA-4), has announced that he will retire at the end of 2014. Over the years, Rep. Hastings has been a great supporter for regional economic development, the dams on the Columbia Snake River System, and energy issues in the Northwest.
Rep. Hastings has been a leader not just for the Fourth District, and not just for the State of Washington, but truly for the entire Pacific Northwest for natural resources and so many more issues. Since he was first elected to Congress in 1994, he has earned a reputation as an effective leader both in our region and our nation's capital, and he has served as a tireless advocate of the dams on the Snake and Columbia Rivers, and the multi-purpose benefits they provide. Rep. Hastings has also been instrumental in discussions regarding the Farm Bill, the Columbia River Treaty, the FCRPS Biological Opinion and many other issues of importance to PNWA and our membership.
To recognize his efforts, Rep. Hastings was named PNWA's 2007 Legislator of the Year, and his leadership and support will certainly be missed. PNWA looks forward to working with Rep. Hastings in his last year in the U.S. Congress, and wishes him the best upon his retirement.
