Members of the Northwest Congressional delegation demonstrate strong support for small ports
Yesterday, 30 Members of Congress, including 10 from the Northwest Delegation, signed onto a letter to WRDA Conferees in support of small ports. Specifically, the letter highlights the value of our nation's small ports and urges the inclusion of a permanent 10% Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund set aside for these projects in the final WRDA bill. Small port funding has been a priority issue for PNWA for many years, and we are so pleased that there is strong support for these vital projects nationwide. We sincerely thank Representatives Peter DeFazio (D, OR-4) and Jamie Herrera Beutler (R, WA-3) for leading this effort, and to the Members of our Northwest delegation who signed on in support.
With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, the House will take a one week recess and the Senate will be out for two weeks. Discussions are expected to continue at the staff level, however, and there is current speculation that a conference report could be agreed upon before the chambers adjourn on December 13th. PNWA will provide updates on the WRDA process, and the timeline, as they are available. We will continue to advocate for all of our priority issues in the bill, and look forward to working with our delegation as the WRDA process continues.
