PNWA Annual Convention Highlights
PNWA's 78th Annual Convention was held last week in Vancouver, Washington. This meeting was an unparalleled success with a record number of members and colleagues in attendance. Our agenda offered valuable information and updates on Pacific Northwest navigation, energy, trade and economic development issues, with presentations from some of the finest experts in our community. The agenda also included the presentation of our 2012 Legislator of the Year award to Rep. Norm Dicks and adoption of our 2013 Policy and Project list which will guide PNWA staff activities for the coming year.

- Steven Miles from David Evans and Associates, Inc has shared a new video as a follow up to his presentation on laser scanning technology. The video showcases work done by DEA for Cordoba Corporation in Los Angeles in preparation for the space shuttle's historic move across the city.
- Steve Morasch from Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt alerted us to a working group highlighting FEMA/ESA issues in Oregon. The next meeting of this group will take place on November 6th from 9:30am-12:00pm at Clean Water Services, 2250 SW Hillsboro Hwy, Hillsboro, OR. During the convention, we were also able to present our 2012 Distinguished Service Awards. These awards are an opportunity for PNWA to thank our friends and colleagues who have made an outstanding contribution to the PNWA mission. Honorees included Lanny Cawley, Executive Director, Port of Kalama; Amber Hansen, General Manager, Port of Sunnyside; John Hicks, Chief, Navigation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District; Ken O'Hollaren, Executive Director, Port of Longview; Whit Olson, Regional Director, Foss Maritime Company; and Dianne Perry, former Port of Portland employee working on the Columbia River Channel Deepening project. Invitation to attend Regional Sediment Evaluation Team (RSET) Meeting
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division, is holding the 2012 RSET meeting on October 17th from 9:30am-3:00pm at the Corps' Seattle District Office (4735 E. Marginal
Way S, Seattle, WA 98124).
The meeting will cover three general topics:
- District summaries of dredged material evaluations conducted over the last year and updates on available and proposed local guidance.
- Ongoing work to update the Sediment Evaluation Framework for the Pacific Northwest (SEF), including related studies.
- Members of the public, including the public ports, industry consultants and other users of the SEF to provide feedback and are invited to prepare papers or provide brief presentation pertaining to sediment evaluation issues in the region.

American Association of Port Authorities seeking Manager of Government Relations
The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) is seeking a talented Manager for its Government Relations Department. AAPA is a trade association which represents public ports in the U.S. AAPA is seeking someone with a minimum of five years' experience, preferably more, on Capitol Hill and/or in government relations for an association. Responsibilities include advocating for Association positions with Congress and Federal Agencies, working with Association committees on developing policy and programs, and writing briefing papers, talking points and articles on government relations issues. Issues and topics of responsibility may include transportation policy, navigation aids, environment, export promotion, trade, and security. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and a track record of success working in a multi-faceted and busy work environment. The position is based in Alexandria, Virginia and provides excellent benefits including health, dental, life and disability insurance, employer-paid pension as well as 401K, and free parking.
