The years are going by fast aren't they? We find it hard to believe that we are about to complete our eighth year of operating Lifestyle Fitness! Some of you have been with us since day one and we are very thankful for your support all these years. Some of you have just joined our club and we are so happy you are finally here as well. We thank each and every one of you for your support and we value the friendships we have made along the way. Lifestyle Fitness is a very unique health club and it is largely due to you, our wonderful members and supporters. Without you, we would be just another "gym".
It is the Christmas season when families gather close to remember and celebrate the birth of a baby who changed the world. And so we ask your indulgence during this time as we seek to honor Him and spend time with our families who are home from college or taking time off from jobs to come home. (And we could use a little R&R ourselves.)
During the week of Christmas we have modified our hours to provide you opportunities to get your workouts, while allowing us some extra time to spend with our families.

Necessary but Not Sufficient
Last time I let you in on the Key Ingredient to Weight Loss. Remember what it was? No, not the flu bug, although that can be effective on some occasions. Consistency. Just showing up is more than half the battle. Those who show up for their workouts; those who are mindful of their food choices and portion sizes; those who keep a good mental outlook and those who nourish their spiritual self are more successful at keeping their weight under control and living a healthier life. Consistency is the most important element of overall success. There are a myriad of smaller elements that come together to finish the battle (so to speak). If showing up is winning more than half the battle then what is the other battle and how do you win it? Good question. The other battle is making sure you are doing something worthwhile when you show up. Showing up is enough in the beginning. Just doing something other than sitting all day is a great start. However, it is necessary but not sufficient . (I haven't heard that phrase since my high school sophomore Physics class. I'm so pleased that I can finally use something I learned in high school!) |
Christmas Party Survival Guide The season is in full swing... office parties, family gatherings, neighborhood get-togethers... How can you stay in control of those healthy eating habits that you have worked so hard to establish?
Here are some steps that will help you navigate those tempting party platters: - Don't show up hungry: Don't skip lunch so you can splurge later. Snack on cereal, vegetable sticks, nuts or a small sandwich to keep from overeating later.
- Don't tip back too many: Alcohol inhibits judgement and some alcoholic beverages, like wine, can even stimulate hunger. Limit your overall alcohol intake and intersperse the hard drinks with glasses of water or seltzer.
- Refocus your holidays: Holidays are often centered around food. Try refocusing them being with family and friends by making traditions like throwing around the football or playing certain games.
- Make up rules, if it helps: If eating treats from co-workers is your downfall, make a rule about avoiding all such treats.
- Be mindful of what you're eating and whether you actually want to eat a food or if you are just eating what is in front of you.
- Balance it out: Did you eat two heaping servings of mashed potatoes and gravy at dinner? All is not lost. Have a small piece of pie for dessert.
- Bring the healthy appetizer: It'll ensure a healthy option at the table.
- Steel your resolve for the entire season: It's not just a single day, but the collection of holiday parties and days of leftovers throughout the season that add up. Remember, eating well is a marathon - not a sprint.
