neon open sign
ELM Expo is an opportunity for librarians from all types of libraries & K-12 teachers to get
hands-on & up-close with the ELM Databases.

This day-long training event will give you the chance to attend multiple sessions tailored to your interests & experience. Computers available, but feel free to bring your own laptop or tablet to personalize your learning.

ELM Expo is Fri Nov 6 from 8:30-4:00 at the Anoka-Hennepin Staff Development Center (2727 Ferry St, Anoka 55303). Cost is $30 which includes a morning snack, lunch & beverage, & handouts. The event is sponsored by Metronet, CMLE, & Minitex
Enrollment is limited to the first 100 people.

Metronet has scholarships for this event for registration, mileage, or to subsidize the cost of your employer hiring a substitute worker. Recipients would be able to apply for other scholarships in the future; this wouldn't 'count' against a future award. Contact other multitypes for scholarships in those regions.

CRPLSA announces the second season of Once Upon a Reader, a statewide one-book program. The program, which focuses on children aged 0-6, will highlight the importance of reading and sharing books with children. The program is funded through the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage for Library Legacy activities.

The book selected for the 2016-2017 Once Upon a Reader program is Ten Pigs: An Epic Bath Adventure. The book is written and illustrated by Minnesota resident Derek Anderson. The program will feature original music by local singer/songwriter Tom Lieberman.

Take a look at this pictorial review of Year 1 of Once Upon a Reader with the star Cow & the author & the illustrator of Moo!, the Once Upon a Reader book for year 1.

  • While your library might not offer organized afterschool programs, you do offer "stealth" learning opportunities just by being open when kids are not in school. Celebrate the importance of afterschool learning with Lights On Afterschool (LoA), a nationwide event celebrating the value of out-of-school-time programs to children, families, & communities. Ignite Afterschool, Minnesota's afterschool network, offers celebration support, including a toolkit. Contact Jen Verbrugge at  jennifer.verbrugge@state.mn.us or 651-582-8356 for more information.
