Vessel Examiner and Program Visitor Activities
For those of you who are or are interested in becoming a vessel examiner or program visitor in the Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) program, Flotilla 5-3 is leading is a workshop for the division on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 9am to 1pm at the MIO. This workshop is a good refresher and introduction but is not meant to prepare you to take the online test. Please register here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dDRvWXdXbXR0RndXei1HMHZDZTZsX1E6MA.
If you have any questions about this workshop please contact John Bilas, SO-PV or Kevin King, Flotilla 5-3 FSO-PV or Anthony Carter, Flotilla 5-3 FSO-VE.
If you cannot make the workshop, you can certainly self study for the vessel exam course or the program visitor course and take the online test, followed by the required number of vessel exams or program visits under supervision of a qualified mentor. The training information for both of these important Recreational Boating Safety programs can be found here http://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=v-dept&category=job-aid-kits.

General Training
Although we have leadership positions within the flotilla like FSO-MT, each member is ultimately responsible for his or her own goals and training. A general guide to various Auxiliary qualification opportunities and requirements is here http://www.cgaux.org/training/PDF/MemberTrain-QualGuide-09.pdf. Please consider the qualifications that are most interesting to you.
For those of you who have not yet taken the basic FEMA online classes for the incident command system, they can be found here:
ICS-100 http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/courseOverview.aspx?code=is-100.b
ICS-200 http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/courseOverview.aspx?code=is-200.b
ICS-700 http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/courseOverview.aspx?code=is-700.a
ICS-800 http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/courseOverview.aspx?code=is-800.b
ICS-100 and ICS-700 are required for most operational activities, like boat crew. ICS-200 and ICS-800 are required for certain leadership positions, like coxswain. All four courses are recommended for everyone. Copies of completion certificates should be sent to me for endorsement and forwarding to DIRAUX. In an earlier email I incorrectly advised you to send these certificates to our FSO-IS Lou Nock.
