Welcome to the October edition of the South Shore Clean Cities newsletter. We provide you with upcoming transportation news in your area along with tips and ways to improve your fleets and communities. We appreciate your input so feel free to leave us feedback on how we're doing! Help us spread the word to better improve Northern Indiana's quality of life and reduce our environmental footprint. Propane School Bus Grant Webinar - Friday, Oct. 9, 2015
The Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) Announced on August 19th that Indiana Public School Corporations that own their own buses can begin applying for a share of $300,000 through the OED's 2015 Indiana Propane School Bus grant program. Join us for a webinar on Friday, October 9, 2015 to learn more about this grant opportunity and how your school bus fleet can apply for the grant.

Speakers will include Megan Ottesen with the Office of Energy Development (OED), Kellie Walsh with Greater Indiana Clean Cities (GICC) and Carl Lisek with South Shore Clean Cities (SSCC).

Green Fleet Educational Session - October 21, 2015

South Shore Clean Cities, in conjunction with the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) invite you to attend our final Green Fleet Educational Session on Hybrid & Electric vehicles on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 9:30am - 12:00pm CST at the Hammond Port Authority.

At this event, you will learn ways to improve your fleet's carbon footprint and reduce emissions. Participate in education forums led by industry experts, fleet managers, school bus and government agencies.

Carl Lisek Inducted into Clean Cities Hall of Fame
Four Coalition Leaders Inducted Into Clean Cities Hall of Fame

Coordinators Samantha Bingham, Carl Lisek, Lorrie Lisek, and Jonathan Overly are the latest inductees into the U.S. Department of Energy's
Clean Cities Hall of Fame, which recognized outstanding contributions to the program's mission of reducing petroleum use in U.S. transportation. Clean Cities Director Dennis Smith and Co-Director Linda Bluestein inducted the four coordinators in the Clean Cities Hall of Fame on Sept. 3, 2015.

DieselWise Funding Available for 2015

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) recently announced the latest round of DIESELWISE funding for 2015, totaling at $900,000 for clean diesel, alternative fuel, and anti-idling projects. They have teamed up once again with South Shore Clean Cities to develop grant proposals and apply on behalf of fleets who are interested in partial cost offset for replacement, retrofit, or repower projects targeting existing diesel vehicles.

October is National Energy Awareness Month, a national effort to underscore how central energy is to our national prosperity, security, and environmental well-being. In commemoration of National Energy Awareness Month, the Obama administration is kicking off a month of clean energy events and activities.
