Welcome to the March edition of the South Shore Clean Cities newsletter. We provide you with upcoming transportation news in your area along with tips and ways to improve your fleets and communities. We appreciate your input so feel free to leave us feedback on how we're doing! Help us spread the word to better improve Northern Indiana's quality of life and reduce our carbon footprint. Dr. Deb Backhus Recognized as Gary Legend |
Dr. Deb Backhus of South Shore Clean Cities and Legacy Environmental Services, Inc. was recognized as a community leader in the areas of clean air, water and environmental protection. She was one of four honorees recognized by Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson as a Gary Legend. View Article
The Gary Legends program was developed by the City of Gary and the Social Media Development Group as a way to spotlight past and present Gary residents who have made a significant impact on the city through individual accomplishments, philanthropic acts, or simply making Gary a better place to live.
South Shore Clean Cities, Wisconsin Clean Cities and Legacy Environmental Services (A Sustainability Consulting firm that is contracted to manage both of these Clean Cities coalitions) congratulate Deb on her accomplishments inside and outside our organizations.

South Shore Clean Cities Goes to Washington |
South Shore Clean Cities represented Indiana by attending the Transportation Energy Partnership Meeting held in Washington D.C. late February 2015. A variety of national trade associations that represent America's alternative fuel and vehicle industries signed a joint letter to the Senate and House Energy & Water Appropriations Subcommittees in support of funding the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Clean Cities Program. Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit |
Fueling equipment for natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (propane), electricity, E85, or diesel fuel blends containing a minimum of 20% biodiesel installed between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2013, is eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the cost, not to exceed $30,000. Annual Alternative Fuel Report Survey |
Please help us put together a snapshot of the amount of petroleum and greenhouse gas emissions Indiana reduced in 2014. Your data will help us reflect to the rest of the U.S. all the activities and initiatives happening in Northern Indiana.
All responses are confidential. Your individual numbers will not be shared with anyone outside the South Shore Clean Cities staff. Any data shared will be aggregate data that reflects the entire coalition.
