EV Quarterly Discussion Webinar


Join Clean Cities for their upcoming Electric Vehicle (EV) Quarterly discussion webinar Wednesday, September 25 at 12:oo pm CT. The webinar will be hosted by Linda Bluestein, DOE National Clean Cities Co-Director, and will feature two speakers, Ted Bohn from Argonne National Laboratory and Matthew Shirk from Idaho National Laboratory. 
Illinois Bans Hand-Held Cell Phones
 
On August 16, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed into law two bills aimed at combating distracted driving: one prohibits the use of all hand-held mobile phones while driving on Illinois roads, and the other increases penalties on drivers whose behind-the-wheel use of an electronic device leads to an accident. Under the new law, which takes effect January 1, 2014, fines for a first offense are $75. Penalties increase by $25 for subsequent offenses to a maximum of $150.
Lawn Mowers Converted to Propan
 
This July, as part of an ongoing effort to make its
 operations as green and economical as possible, the Forest Preserves of Cook County converted 16 new Gravely Mowers to propane power. Halloran Power Equipment Inc, Palatine IL 60074 partnered with Metro Lawn Propane Conversions to offer EPA Certified conversion kits for the Kawasaki engines that were used on the Gravely Mowers.
Contractor Adds 20 New Propane School Buses
 

School bus contract Cook-Illinois Corporation took the keys to 20 new 78-passenger Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses for customer Berkeley School District No. 87 during a ceremony. Blue Bird said Cook-Illinois is no stranger to adopting alternative fuel technology, as it was one of the first school bus contractors to utilize CNG buses in the 1970s. A decade later the company began using the industry's first adaptation of propane technology.
