NACPM has played a leadership role since 2011 on the steering committee for the Home Birth Summits, participating as delegates, joining action groups, working on the release of the best practice guidelines, and supporting fund raising for the events. NACPM has also helped to ensure that all sectors of the maternity care system - as well as different perspectives - are represented among the invited delegates. The Home Birth Consensus Summits bring a cross-section of the maternity care system into one room to discuss improved integration of services for all women and families in the United States and our shared responsibility for the care and safety of women choosing home birth. The first Summit, held in 2011, resulted in an historic set of cross-sector consensus statements to support practice and policy, and the development of 9 multi-disciplinary Action Groups to carry forward the intent of the consensus statements. The second Summit in 2013 built on the success of the Action Groups and addressed challenges and opportunities and next steps for the consensus statements. Now comes Home Birth Consensus Summit III, with a focus on advancing equity through voice, policy, practice and research - and an opportunity for you to participate! We at NACPM hope you will join us and the other delegates at the Summit to explore facets of the existing system and ways to move forward. Space at in the live streaming session is very limited, so you are encouraged to register ASAP. Learn more here. Learn more about the Home Birth Summit at their website, and view this year's agenda.
