The Midwives and Mothers in Action (MAMA) Campaign needs your help!
What would it be like...? What will it take...?
For every woman who wants the care of a CPM to have one, including the most under-served and vulnerable?
For federal money to flow to CPM education?
For CPMs to be compensated by all insurance providers?
For CPMs to have access to federal education loan repayment programs?
With the recent Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, implementation of health care reform is steaming down the track - and carrying along with it CPMs' opportunity to be players in the rapidly changing reality of how care will be provided, who will provide care, and how providers will be paid over the next decade. For the sake of mothers and babies, CPMs must stay on that train! If we get off now, it could be decades before the opportunity to become integral players in the maternity care system will emerge again. The Midwives and Mothers in Action (MAMA) Campaign, a partnership of CfM, ICTC, MANA, MEAC, NACPM , and NARM - has been hard at work for three years to put federal policy in place to move these goals from dream to reality.
MAMA has:
A concrete policy initiative - H.R. 1054, the Access to Certified Professional Midwives Act - capable of making the above goals a reality
A dedicated Federal champion in Congresswoman Chelllie Pingree of Maine
A rapidly growing base of support in Congress in the form of 22 co-sponsors for H.R. 1054
An exciting and realistic goal of 25 total bill co-sponsors by the end of 2012
Important opportunities with the new Congress coming in January 2013, along with upcoming intensive budget/cost savings debates and legislation where our bill could fit in and make a difference
