Book of the Month

The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud features a modern day London that few would recognize. It is a time when ghosts terrify the night, killing anyone they cross paths with. This has lead to many changes in everyday life, including the establishment of ghost-hunting agencies led by children.
Lucy Carlyle has been hearing ghosts since childhood with extraordinary skill, but a new job at Lockwood and Company could mean the end of her short life.
With detailed, often humorous characterization and a gripping plot, Stroud has written a ghost tale that will have you believing - or at least checking under the bed.

The Washingtons of Sulgrave Manor

From Sulgrave Manor in England, the ancestral home of George Washington, Cymon Snow will discuss how the descendent of a Royalist family ended up defying his King and leading a new nation. Dressed in 17th-century costume, our speaker will share stories of the Washingtons' days of danger and adventure, bridging the distance between the Old World and the New, the present and the past. Hors d'oeuvres and reception.
