Book of the Month

A Matter of Days by Amber Kizer       It is called BluStar, and it's the deadliest virus ever, killing thousands of people across the world. Sixteen-year-old Nadia and her younger brother, Rabbit, are the sole survivors in their little home. They survived because their uncle, who works on top-secret ideas for the military, was able to get them a trial vaccine in time. And it worked. Now, after hiding in their house for months as the chaos outside dies down, they are following his directions to find safety across the country with their grandfather in a hidden "Armageddon cave" in West Virginia.
The story focuses on Nadia's need to protect and reconnect with her brother, deal with the pain of losing both parents, and "be the cockroach" as her father taught them, and simply survive. From scavenging food and clean water, to navigating towns of dead bodies, to avoiding capture by violent and power-hungry gangs, this is a true story of survival. Although gory at times, it will appeal to both guys and girls...and adults.

Summer Reading Movie!

Summer Reading for Teens: Spark a Reaction!
Summer Reading for Teens: Spark a Reaction!

As the lazy days of summer stretch ahead, what better way to relax than with a good book? Reading offers chances to escape, journeys to travel (even when you can't get out of town), and mysteries to solve.

Reading is also tremendously important when time travelling. Don't believe me? Check out our special public service announcement that shows just what can happen. It stars our beloved TARDIS as well as a few other curious characters. Click on the image to view.

Our Summer Reading theme for teens is Spark a Reaction, and it runs all the way until August 31. You can let us know what you're reading on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #crrlsummerlove. Sign up and be sure to keep an eye out for the TARDIS as it travels around our libraries.

Sincerely,
