It's time to kick those winter blues away and get ready for another busy tourism season here in the Finger Lakes Region.  The trees will be beginning to bud, flowers will be blooming and lots of exciting Spring things will be happening before we know it!  Read on for the latest news from the Cayuga County Office of Tourism.

 

International Tourism Seminar - April 21, 2015

The Cayuga County Office of Tourism in collaboration with Visit Syracuse is sponsoring a seminar on International Tourism for County Tourism stakeholders and community leaders interested in learning how to serve the growing international market coming to New York State for leisure, business and education.  The seminar will focus on simple steps to welcome these visitors that can be implemented by even very small businesses.  The seminar will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn.  The $15 fee includes a light lunch.  For those unable to attend the Auburn seminar, you are welcome to attend the seminar the next morning, April 22 at Destiny.  To register email barb@tourcayuga.com.


 

Finger Lakes Sweet Treat Trail Tasting Tour Kick-off  - May 1, 2015

The Finger Lakes Sweet Treat Trail Tasting Tour kick-off will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in conjunction with downtown Auburn's First Friday events.  Vendors from many of the Trail's 20 stops will be in attendance to offer samplings of their luscious sweet treats.  From jams and jellies to honey and cookies produced with locally sourced ingredients, you'll find something to satisfy your sweet tooth.  The event is free and open to the public.


 

National Tourism Week, May 2-10, 2015

National Travel and Tourism Week will be held May 2-10, 2015.  This annual celebration was established by a congressional resolution in 1983 and first celebrated in 1984.  The nationwide week of events serves to champion the power of the travel and tourism industry.  A brief presentation highlighting Cayuga County Tourism will be held at Auburn City Hall at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th for anyone that would like to attend. 


 

Young Strategies Visitor Research Project Presentation - May 19,2015

Young Strategies, Inc., a nationally recognized firm specializing in research and strategic planning for the tourism industry, is in the process of conducting a visitor research project for Cayuga County Tourism.  Data from the study will be presented on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.  The information from the study will guide the next five years of the strategic plan for Cayuga County Tourism and all tourism partners and community leaders are encouraged to attend.  The event is free but registration is required.  Email maureen@tourcayuga.com to register.

 

"Foodie Tour"  - June 3, 2015 

Pumpkin Hill Bistro Culinary Tourism is a huge trend with research showing that half of leisure travelers are interested in discovering unique local dining experiences.  With this in mind, the Tourism Office is hosting a 'Foodie Tour' for front line tourism staff and managers on June 3rd from 10:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to help our tourism partners learn about some of the wonderful culinary opportunities in the County.  Planned stops on the tour include The Fargo, Aurora Inn, Dorie's, Skillet & Embers at Wells College, Pumpkin Hill Bistro, and Long Point Winery.  The tour is free but space is limited so registration is required.  To register email maureen@tourcayuga.com

 

 

2015 Visitors Guide to Cayuga County 

The 2015 Official Visitors' Guide to Cayuga County is now available.  Stop by the Tourism Office and pick up your supply to help our visitors find their way to all the great things to see and do and places to stay in Cayuga County.  The guide is also available online http://tourcayuga.com/visitors-guide/

I LOVE NY Empire State Development's Division of Tourism has launched a free I Love NY app to promote New York State Tourism.  To download the free app, visit iTunes or Google Play app store on your device or go to www.iloveny.com/mobile.

 

Visitor Center stats

Lots of interesting folks pass through the Cayuga County Office of Tourism with visitors coming from 43 different States and Washington, DC as well as 12 different countries in 2014! It's no surprise that we see the most visitors in July and August and the least in February but we are open year-round to answer visitor inquiries and help them with trip planning. 

 

Happy Retirement Barb!

After 5 years of dedicated service, Barb Murdoch our Administrative and Project Coordinator will be retiring on May 1st.  Congratulations Barb!
