For the Birds
| |
Bird watching has attracted much attention in recent years as an environmentally friendly way of producing more visitor spending. Bird-watchers normally spend the early morning hours bird watching and then have the rest of the day to shop, dine, and visit attractions, creating a great deal of visitor spending revenue. With this in mind, the Cayuga County Office of Tourism has developed a new brochure to help visitors find the birding 'hot spots' around the County. The brochure will be launched with the showing of "The Big Year" at Auburn Public Theater at the 8 p.m. screenings on October 18 and 19. The first 25 people each night will receive FREE 'For the Birds' caps compliments of the Tourism Office and all attendees will be given coupons provided by Cedar Craft Wild Bird Center. "The Big Year" is the story of three fanatical bird-watchers (Steve Martin, Owen Wilson, Jack Black) and how they spend an entire year competing to spot the highest number of species. Tickets are $5 in advance, $6 at the door. Join us for a night of bird -brain fun!

Do you want to increase your motorcoach business? Are you motorcoach friendly?
| |
|
If the answer to either of these questions is yes, you will want to attend our workshop on Thursday, November 7, 10-11:30 a.m. at The Apple Station, Cayuga. This workshop will help you think about what you need to welcome motorcoaches to your business. Is your property accessible by motorcoach? Do you have a lobby or reception area where 40+ people can assemble? Is your staff trained to work with motorcoach groups? Motorcoach business is a unique market with specific needs and you need to be ready to fulfill these needs if you want this kind of business. This workshop will tell you what you need to know about both breaking into this market and taking even better care of the motorcoach business you already have. Led by Andrea Bornheim of Break the Ice Media, this FREE workshop will be worth your time and the Apple Station's homemade cider and cider donuts are an added bonus. The Apple Station is located at 5279 Cross Road, Cayuga. Email barb@tourcayuga.com by November 4th to register.

Wayfinding Study
| |
|
Based on previously conducted marketing research reports conducted by the Office of Tourism, we recognize the need for better signs in the County to help visitors get to our communities that depend on tourism. With this in mind, we contracted with Bergmann Associates of Rochester to conduct a Vehicular Wayfinding Study with the goal of creating a sign system along priority routes to our tourism hubs. The plan includes a system framework, sign designs, costs and strategy for an overall County Plan. To maintain continuity throughout the County we hope that communities will adopt the design for pedestrian wayfinding as well. Plan presentations have been held in Fair Haven and Aurora and a third presentation is planned for Thursday, November 21, 2013, 9 a.m., Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, 2 State Street, Auburn. Anyone working on sign plans for their community is encouraged to attend. Email barb@tourcayuga.com to sign up.
