Sweet Treat Trail Event
|
|
In 2012 we launched the new 'Sweet Treat Trail' to guide visitors to the unique sweets and treats that are locally grown and/or produced in Cayuga County. The simple brochure we produced was very popular and this year we plan to expand the program with some type of an event or activity that will raise the trail profile to another level. If you produce and/or sell local jam, jelly, dessert wines, syrups, honey, homemade baked goods or ice cream made with local products, you are open for visitors on a regular basis and you are interested in helping to develop this program, contact Susan Marteney, nasusm@hotmail.com and let her know of your interest. You do not have to be listed in the brochure to be part of this promotion.

Weedsport Information
| |
|
The brochure information rack we instituted in 2012 at Arby's/Tim Horton's in Weedsport has proven to be a popular resource for visitors, with brochures and maps flying off the rack. If you would like us to feature your hotel or attraction in the rack in 2013, please deliver 100 brochures and your check in the amount of $50.00 ($100 for non-Cayuga County attractions/lodging) to the Cayuga County CVB, 131 Genesee Street, Auburn, NY 13021. We will call you when additional brochures are needed.

Group Sales
| |
|
In April 2012, we launched our first comprehensive group sales effort to bring more meeting, conference, motorcoach and small group business to Cayuga County. Much groundwork has been laid including collateral development, website updates, trade show attendance and lead generation, familiarization tours and even a couple of bookings! In 2013, we plan to accelerate the program and make it more robust; adding sales blitzes, additional shows and continued relationship building to the marketing plan. We are always looking for coop partners for these programs, so if you have an interest in this market and have not yet contacted our group sales representative, Nicole Mahoney, please get in touch with her at your earliest convenience so she can include you in our 2013 Group Sales Program; email her at groups@tourcayuga.com.

Cayuga County Wayfinding Design Plan launches
| |
The need for a comprehensive wayfinding system in Cayuga County has been well documented by two marketing studies conducted for the Cayuga County Office of Tourism; the first by Randall Travel Marketing in 2007 and the second by Young Strategies in 2011. With the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival debuting last summer, a new hotel in downtown Auburn, as well as development plans for Auburn, Fair Haven, and the Village of Aurora, the need for better wayfinding has become more and more apparent.
We are happy to announce that the first phase of this much-needed project will begin at the end of January 2013. The project will create a comprehensive countywide informational and wayfinding system plan that includes general vehicular directional signs that connect tourism hubs (cities/towns/villages) in Cayuga County. It is not intended to include wayfinding within each community but it will provide fabrication and design details for communities that wish to link in with the countywide system. A big thanks goes to our community partners that are helping make this project a reality - the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Cayuga Economic Development Agency, Fred L. Emerson Foundation and the Cayuga County Legislature. Stay tuned for more details as the project progresses!

Birding and Bird Watching Tourism
|
Bird watching and birding is a booming international business opportunity that attracts low impact and high return visitors that boost rural tourism economies and support jobs in rural areas. Bird watching has become one of the world's leading recreational activities and we want to be sure to capture a piece of that business for Cayuga County!
If you are a bird watching enthusiast and knowledgeable of our local birdwatching opportunities, we need your help! This year we are planning to create tools to attract and assist birdwatchers and we need to know where the best bird watching spots in the county are and what resources will be most valuable to avid bird watchers. If you can help as a knowledgeable resource, we would love to hear from you. Contact Susan Marteney, nasusm@hotmail.com.
