YOUNG ADULT SELF-ADVOCACY

Building Friendships & Developing Advocacy Skills
Support young adults with developmental disabilities as we work to become strong self-advocates and develop new skills and friendships! Self-advocates are people with disabilities who speak up for themselves and others. They can express themselves with spoken words, sign language, language boards and in other ways unique to themselves. Self-advocacy enables people with disabilities to live a fulfilling life in the community with the support they need.
This group is extremely creative and artistic. There is a desire to expand in music, dance and theatre, as well as continue to volunteer in the community. We are looking for committed volunteers who want to play and learn with this amazing group of individuals.
Upcoming dates: Dec. 6 & Feb. 7, 10am-12pm
Where: The Arc, 2602 McLeod Rd, Bellingham
Contact: Jessika Houston, (360) 715-0170 ext. 304, jessikah@arcwhatcom.org

STEWARDS OF CHILDREN TRAINING

Volunteers who work with children are encouraged to attend this training offered by Brigid Collins.
To empower adults to protect children, Brigid Collins Family Support Center is offering Darkness to Light Stewards of Children trainings to the community. This revolutionary sexual abuse training program educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
Stewards of Children is a 2-hour training led by a facilitator educated and equipped by Darkness to Light to deliver the program to the broader community. This training has been shown to increase awareness of child sexual abuse, improve attitudes about adult responsibility, and increase protective behaviors.
The training is recommended for those 16 and older. Children as young as 14 may attend with written permission from a legal guardian. There is a $10 fee for materials. Scholarships are available. For more info or to RSVP, call 360-734-4616 or visit www.brigidcollins.org.
