Saying Goodbye to a Great Friend
and Veterinarian
Dr. Alford Our longtime friend and associate, Dr. Ashley Herbert is leaving TVV - her last day is this Saturday, August 22nd.  It is both a time of celebration because of how proud we are of her, but also a time of sadness in having to say goodbye.

Dr. Herbert never ceases to amaze us.  She has over and over again proven to be an excellent vet - very professional, highly-skilled, and has gained much experience over the last six years.  We are proud of her hard work and her courage and tenacity in making this next step in her professional journey - as she will be opening her own veterinary practice soon on the west side of Atlanta. We will all miss her very much.  Best wishes Dr. Herbert!

Experiencing Radioactive Therapy
With a Hyperthyroid Cat
Molly Casey is a great client and a very devoted pet owner.  Molly's cat Etta Jane was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.  Hyperthyroidism is the most common endocrine (hormone) disorder that affects cats. It creates a wide range of signs resulting from the overproduction of a  hormone made by the thyroid gland.  There are several treatment options - which include life-long medication therapy, surgery to remove the thyroid gland, and radioactive iodine therapy.  The most successful, with the least side-effects - but is most expensive - is the radioactive therapy.  Here is Molly's firsthand experience in making her decision on what treatment to go with, as well as the radioactive therapy protocol she endured with Etta Jane.

Canine Influenza:
Where are we now?

Dr. Stacy
Dr. Stacy, Veterinarian & Medical Director TVV Decatur
Over the past 4 weeks we have seen a substantial decrease in the H3N2 strain of K9 influenza in the Atlanta area.
Even with the current decrease in flu cases, TVV recommends not  exposing your dog to high-risk dogs, such as dogs that have just come from a shelter or dogs exhibiting upper respiratory symptoms.  If you do take your dog to high dog-populated areas, facilities, etc. just be aware of the potential risk involved - and remember this strain of influenza does not have a preventable vaccine.

We will continue to let our clients and friends know of any updates regarding the H3N2 flu.   For the time being, TVV will continue to follow protocols to help prevent potential contamination within our hospitals.
