Lick granulomas are caused by incessant licking at a small area - usually on the top of the foot, or the bottom portion of their leg. A small red inflamed bald spot appears and the more pain and damage caused to the skin, creates even more incessant licking.  Psychological factors are often identified as being the cause of this compulsive licking, such as anxiety caused by separation, confinement, or environmental changes.
