I have been in the veterinary profession for many years and the hardest question to answer still, is - how will I know when it is time to say goodbye to my faithful companion? I don't envy anyone who has to make the most difficult decision they will ever have to make for their fur baby; it is truly heart wrenching. Having the knowledge that I do about animal care does not make it any easier. Nor does it give me any special insight when it comes to my own pets. I do know however, there are no right or wrong answers and I also know that every situation is different. Just keep in mind that nobody knows your baby like you do. Read more . . .

Project Samana
Veterinary Outreach Program
|
|
Project Samana is a veterinary outreach program that started 20 years ago, on the Samana peninsula of Dominican Republic. This year, Dr. Françoise Tyler, Dr. Carrie McColgan, and Treasure Dreher from The Village Vets Lilburn/Stn Mtn will be joining Team Samana. They will perform and assist with the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats, as well as provide equine medicine to horses and donkeys. Ultimately, The Village Vets goal is to develop additional veterinary outreach programs modeled after this highly successful one and expanding into other under-served communities.
Dr. McColgan provides more information on the project and her own personal experience with Team Samana...

Various pet organizations have chosen September to be Senior Pet Care Month and November as Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Our senior cats and dogs definitely deserve the recognition because of the constant devotion, entertainment, and comfort they have provided their humans for years.
TVV has chosen the month of October to honor your pet (8 years or older), by offering $20 off, one of the most important components of senior pet care, the Senior Wellness Profile. The wellness profile is recommended once annually for healthy senior pets and includes a CBC, Chemistry Profile, Thyroid, and Urinalysis. Dr. Finke's article below explains in detail what each of these tests are and what they indicate as far as a pet's overall health.
