Homeless & Abused Pets Awareness Event

Join in the fun and important cause, this Saturday, September 14th - 10 am - 2 pm, at an event to benefit pets in need of loving homes. Located at Glenlake Park in downtown Decatur - The Village Vets and Dekalb Animal Services are collaborating with Dekalb District Attorney Robert James in an effort to raise support and awareness for the homeless and abused pets in our community. Several team members from The Village Vets will be on-hand, offering low-cost microchips, free nail trims and answering pet care related questions. TVV rescue pets available for adoption will also be presented and we know they would love the chance to meet you!

We are now offering clients who refer a friend, family member, etc. to TVV a $10 credit per referral. The credit will be applied to the referring client's account when the new client comes in for their first appointment and we will notify you accordingly. September is recognized as National Senior Pet Care Month. Even though we feel it is crucial to remind senior pet owners throughout the entire year the different care requirements and recommendations for their older pets - this is a great opportunity to educate all pet owners of the needs of our senior companions.
Due to improved veterinary care and dietary habits, pets are living longer now than they ever have before. This is great news! However, pets, along with their owners and veterinarians, are faced with a whole new set of age-related conditions. Arthritis is one of the most common conditions affecting cats and dogs. Studies reveal 20% of dogs over the age of 2 years and 90% of cats age 12 and older suffer from this disease. Sadly, many times it goes unnoticed for far too long because it doesn't always present with overt signs such as limping. Because older cats and dogs are most affected, many pet owners think "slowing down" is a natural part of aging. The truth is that cats and dogs with arthritis are painful and they don't have to be. Once the condition is recognized and treated, it's amazing to see how much happier and active our furry friends can be.
