What are Essential Oils?

Imagine that you are in a field of lavender, a pine forest, or a grove of citrus trees. Inhale deeply. Aahhh....

Flowers, trees, fruits, grasses, and other plants are nature's gifts to us for natural healing. Have you ever rubbed a rose petal betwe

en your hands and relaxed simply by inhaling the lovely scent? Or crushed some pine needles to breathe in the invigorating aroma? You just created your own essential oil.  The photo at the right is of a lavender oil 'gland' - that's what holds the pure essential oil in the lavender plant.

Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts taken from plants. They are what's evaporated out of the plant material when it is dried to make herbs. And yet, a single drop of essential oil is many times more powerful than herbs. For instance, one drop of peppermint oil is equal to about 25 cups of peppermint tea!

The natural components in essential oils are what the plant used to protect itself from bacterial and viral infections, to cleanse and repair breaks in its tissue, to repel parasites, and to deliver oxygen and nutrients into its cells.

When you use an essential oil, you are receiving the same benefits. Because each drop of essential oil has hundreds of different natural components, it may have many different therapeutic effects. Very concentrated, a drop or two of therapeutic-grade essential oil produces quick and significant results.

For instance, essential oil of peppermint has been found to increase mental accuracy, curb appetite, improve or restore the sense of taste, ease headache pain, settle an upset stomach, open the sinuses, relieve muscle aches, and bring down a fever.

Look for future issues to learn more about essential oils, including how they are distilled, what is important about using therapeutic-grade oils, and how to use them. We'll also help you learn about using some of our favorite oils, like lavender, peppermint and lemon.

Now you can put the power of essential oils to work for you and your family. The Essential 7 kit has the seven basic essential oils that you can use for your family's greater well-being.
