Member of the Month: Kate Schaper
At the beginning of this year I had reached an all-time high for my weight. I was 189.6lbs and was pushing 200lbs. That literally scared me, and I knew I had to start doing something. I began coming to the gym more often and started doing a lot of cardio and spin classes. I changed my eating habits a little bit, but was still allowing the bad food to come in. What really got me motivated was a friend of mine who had lost over 90lbs by changing her diet with the help of the Medical Weight Loss and Wellness Clinic. When I made the decision to sign up for the program myself, my friend and I would send each other texts to help keep us motivated to continue on and to keep moving forward.
To date, I have lost 41.6lbs, and have another 8 pounds to shred. Although the weight loss program helped me lose the weight, Razor Sharp helped me pull it all back in! I learned early on that doing cardio burned fat for only 2-4 hours after your workout, whereas weight training burned calories for 24-48 hours afterwards! From that point on I have done little to no cardio. I began lifting weights and started seeing the results. After working out with a friend, he told me that I wasn't maximizing my gym time, so again I made more adjustments. I'm now stronger and have increased my weight by 15lbs on each exercise, and I know that each time I go into the gym I'm now maximizing my workout time.
I currently work out approximately 5 times a week, depending on my schedule and I'm at Razor Sharp for no more than one hour. I target legs twice a week, and do biceps, triceps, shoulders and back. I also try every day to add in some abdominal exercises as well. I have subscribed to fitness magazines and look at their exercises to get new ideas and to "confuse" my body so it continues to adapt, overcome, and change.

Expansion Update |
|
The expansion is on track (no pun intended)! The roof is on, the windows are in and floor has been poured. We've made substantial progress in the past couple weeks, so a mid October completion is looking good. The next phase of the construction will be painting and installation of the 4 lane indoor track!

Any members and non-members are welcome to try out these classes and for those individuals who bring them in, we will reward you with a free class or a discount on your next monthly program pricing. Labor Day Hours |

In recognition of the Labor Day holiday, our Main location will be open from 7:00am until noon on Monday, September 2nd. Our North location however, will be open 24/7 as usual. We will resume normal hours and operations at the Main club on Tuesday, September 3rd. Have a safe and wonderful holiday!

What happens to your body during your massage appointment? Part 2 |
|
In the July issue of the Razor Sharp Newsletter, I talked about the systems of the body and the effects of massage therapy. In this final segment, I cover how massage affects the nervous system, reproductive system, respiratory system, skeletal system and urinary system.
- Nervous System: Enhancing release of endorphins (a brain hormone that regulates pain), stimulating the senses (touching, hearing, smelling, sight, and tasting), assisting body functioning, such as respiration, perspiration, and body temperature.
- Reproductive System: Female-Abdominal and back massage can help to alleviate menstrual problems such as period pains, irregular menstruation, PMS and the symptoms of menopause.
- Respiratory System: Improves lung capacity and deepens the breathing pattern tension in the chest cavity, reduces respiration rate and releases lung congestion.
- Skeletal System: Improves posture, facilitates body alignment, increases range of motion and improves soreness and fatigue.
- Urinary System: Aids in increasing urinary output, reduces fluid retention, promotes better elimination of wastes, increases the efficiency of the liver and kidneys and assists toxins stored in the muscles to be released.

Annual Pool Cleaning |

In order to provide you with the best pool experience possible, we will be conducting our annual pool maintenance from Monday, August 25th until Sunday, September 2nd. Both pools will be closed during this time so that we may drain them, thoroughly clean them, and refill them with fresh water.
