The Biltmore International Rose Trials, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and baby goats at the Carl Sandburg house... There is a lot going on in Hendersonville this April! We've had some beautiful weather and the flowers are up! Here are a few things you might enjoy doing while you are here.

The Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are on Their Way!

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have made it as far as Georgia and northern Alabama. They will be here soon. They wintered between southern Mexico and northern Panama and began moving north in January. Migrating at an average rate of about 20 miles per day, they should be here by the first of April.

Biltmore House Events

Orchid Display in Biltmore House Ends Sunday, April 6

Relax in the glass-domed Winter Garden surrounded by lush plants and flowers. The Winter Garden, inside Biltmore House with it's fabulous collection of fragrant exotic orchids will be open to the public till April 6.

Biltmore Blooms March 20 - Friday, May 23

Enjoy the Biltmore Gardens this spring, the daffodils are at their peak already with the stunning tulips, azaleas and roses about to bloom.

Biltmore International Rose Trials
International judges will determine the top roses of Biltmore's Rose Trial plantings in the Walled Garden originally designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead. The garden now houses over 2000 roses of over 250 varieties. The garden's formal layout, close to Biltmore House makes it an ideal setting for the International Rose Trial. The Biltmore Trials use sustainable care methods on all the Trial roses to grow roses in ways the home gardener can duplicate with ease. The winners of the Biltmore Trials are roses you can easily grow in your own garden.

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site

The fields will be filled with frolicking baby goats soon!

The first baby goats are due to be born April 7. And I'm told they're expecting twins! April is a wonderful month to visit. Tour "Connemara" the home of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and writer, Carl Sandburg. The setting is beautiful! The park is located on 264 acres in western North Carolina. The small lake is a great place to spot water birds as they migrate through this time of the year. But the highlight for me is always the goats. While Carl Sandburg wrote, his wife owned and ran a premier goat dairy.

Spring at Chimney Rock Park

Special Events are held regularly including the Naturalist Niche Series. Chimney Rock is home to more than 130 species of birds year round, including warblers, vireos, tanagers, woodpeckers, thrushes, owls and birds of prey. This time of year there are even more migrating birds.
